Thanks el D. No.....have not overlooked the fact that paying for the liquid is also supporting the venue.........and paying for the bar staff who sometimes may not rinse out the soap from the *glasses* properly. As I dont drink tequila I *blooming roses* well hope they not adding salt to my drinks! That is why I have made a point of and wrote about of spending at least £5.
If the sun was shining on me that day [you know the saying *when ya cool the sun shines on you 24hrs a day] I sometimes have been granted free entry or been added to a guestlist for free entry.............due to my great sense of humour ;)..........I aim to spend what it would have cost me as entrance fee PLUS my minimum £5 I would otherwise of spent at the bar.
What do you recken are the changes there are many others given free entrance and are amongst those asking for *tap* water?

£1 *not that much* but in London have been to places where they charged £1 per item! Depending on size of bag cloakroom staff [dont know if venue or promoters staff] charged £2! Not everyone has time to go home [eat] and change. So we walk with our things to the office. Add a laptop or work papers. We are now on to 2 bags aka items. Add a winter coat, umbrella, and handbag that wont fit in the above two bags and now you are onto 5 items. If you *make the mistake* of running into Asda Tesco Sainsbury M&S or other to get some food for post dancing and breakfast you might as well cancel the whole evening!
A rare *bird* but I for one want to know my *upfront* costs. But dont try and charge me a service charge for l'eau de Thames when am already paying for it via water rates!
Oh and in those nice fancy restaurants where they have a *service charge* you often get nice warm bread rolls........at least three different types..........butter or olive oil to put on the bread roll............olives..................and if it is a mediterrean type place...............you may get humous also! Service charge for that? Circa £2.50. Oh, and you may get a jug of water too!
So whilst not comparing like for like........look at the difference in what you get [no guarantee the staff in such venue are any better at rinsing out the soap!]
Been to a salsa venue in Milan once. I experienced a relatively *high* entrance fee and you got a free drink of your choice - be it alcoholic or not alcoholic. Muggins went for non alcoholci.
Another place I went to let you in for *free* but you had to buy a drink. My non alcholic drink cost about €7! The bar then gave me a token to give to security on my way out! No token, no exit allowed! lol!
There are different models..........*business* models! You can devise. just a case of doing your research seeing what others do and then devise one for you that you think will work.
