You know the inverse is also the case though. As a result of the smoking ban, venues are looking for clients who don't need to smoke or even better don't want any smokers nearby and social dancing fits the bill.
We have had 5 venues approach us just this month. The real trick is to find a FORMAT that works for the clients (the dancers) the normal punters (the drinkers), the management and the promoters. For example, at Bar Salsa on Weds as has been mentioned in other threads, we are required to play a musical mix that contains regular merengue, bachata and elements of Reggaeton. The purist dancers would ultimately like to have more bachata and especially more cha cha, but realistically this would not work in keeping the drinkers and ethnic latinos (eg Colombian crowd) happy either. So, over time we have worked towards a mix which seems to keep most happy as witnessed by a still busy club at 2am.
Having said that the format has to suit the venue and at our other clubnights we have to be prepared to change the format accordingly. We cannot realistically do anything to solve the problem of the lack of drink sales, so the best we can try to do is to pull in the numbers the best we can.
